Working in our groups has been slow and steady. We're sooooo close to a big push on fabricating bed, cabinets, ceiling lid, and solar ... not to mention installing them.
We should be getting our last installment of electrical supplies this week. Let's work on installing the ceiling lid and bed so other things can fall in line. Chur

Here are the groups you signed up for and the build categories. Remember to meet with other groups because you can't build yours without consulting others. It's a process that requires input from all sides.
Ande's Camper Build - Ian, Joe, Kelly Cabinets - Cash, Zoelle, Braden, Matt, Vincent Bed - Hayden, Ava, Addys Electrical - Alex, Wells, Elias Ceiling - Lou, Pierce Barn Side Doors - Clay, Max, Teo Back Doors - Jaylyn, Alyce Time to get after it. Chur Great job templating the floor. It's in now and ready to be installed with glue and bolts. This allows us to dig deep in our respective groups to start working on:
Cabinets Ceiling Electrical Door Panels Bed Design Don't forget to populate your portion of the spreadsheet as you develop the budget to build out your project. It's critical that everything is accounted for. We only have so much to spend and we may need to cut here and there to afford everything. With your design, I need professional, neat, and accurate drawings of everything you're working on including measurements/dimensions. This is also mission critical. Chur and nice work so far. Ok...the van's back from the shop and they've successfully blocked off the A/C unit's fluids. Yesterday we took out the unit and cut the lines draining the remaining antifreeze.
Today we'll get in there and prep the floor for the floor installation.
Once the floor is in we can really make moves towards the rest. You've placed yourselves into the following groups: Ande's truck camper Cabinets Bed Electrical Ceiling Work with your group to come up with the design, materials list, and spreadsheet totals. Then we start building the components. Cheers Bam! Interior is removed.
Well done class!!!! The floor, side panels, and ceiling lid is out :) Now we have a few more items left on the walls like seat belt mechanisms, the AC unit from the back, and some assorted bits and pieces of screws etc. to remove and then we're ready to prep the floor and build it. The prep for the floor will require some work. You'll need to sand and prime the few spots that have superficial rust on them. Thankfully it's just superficial and nothing to be concerned about. Then we'll wash and clean the interior walls, floor, and ceiling, then install the flooring. Flooring We have the rubber matt we removed and we'll use it as a template to figure out how much material we'll need and also the cut pattern. That's what we'll work on next week. Chur and great job everyone. It's time to remove much of the interior of the van and take it down to the metal. It will open up more cubic area of room and allow us to install items straight into the metal where needed.
Your next assignment is calculating material and cost of the new floor. Please check the G-Class for the assignment. I'll be sharing with you the spreadsheet for the project. Make a copy and name it. Cheers The designs are up on the wall and the voting has begun!
Students have worked in groups coming up with final drafts of their van builds. It's now up to the AHS community to vote on a build they like. When the votes are tallied and the favorite build is determined, we'll get to work on the van starting with gutting the inside and then figuring out the budget. Here's the builds: It's time to get into groups of 3-4 and start the R&D phase of the project. Here's what's expected:
1) Look up existing builds online to get a reference for what you want your dream build to look like 2) Sketch rough drafts of it and get multiple looks (above, left side, right side, back, front) to gain a better understanding of the build 3) Using straight edges, sharp pencils, and a delicate hand finalize your rough drafts into final drafts of beautiful work. Take your time, make it special. Be proud of what you're creating. We will have a competition at the end of this phase where we will hang the final drafts in the hall and have AHS students do a gallery walk and vote on their favorite design. Winner gets built...if we can afford it. I'm proud of the work so far and keep it up. This is going to be a project you will remember. Students,
I found a website that has a 3D rendering of an extended Econoline van like we have. The link is below. Check it out. It gives an awesome view of this person's build and something we can use for inspiration on our build. Chur 3dvanbuild |
